Washington And Lee Univ
Parking Structure/Ped Bridge
Lexington, VA
The new parking structure for Washington and Lee University is a critical component of a master plan. The structure was located and designed to maximize its use by faculty, students and visitors.
The design features a four level, 201,000 s.f., 610-space parking structure with a freestanding stair/ elevator towers to its north. This provides access to the main campus by an on-grade ramping walkway and to the sorority house promenade across Woods Creek via a 400-foot-long pedestrian bridge. Both the walkway and bridge utilize ornamental railing, decorative lighting and a snow melt system.
The garage aesthetic was derived from the neo-classical architecture of Washington and Lee's campus. The brick-clad pedestrian bridge piers with arched tops further utilize this aesthetic.
