Pilot Corporation Of America
Manufacturing Facility
Jacksonville, FL
When the Pilot Corporation of America decided to locate a plant in Jacksonville to manufacture, warehouse and distribute Pilot pens throughout the United States, The Haskell Company was selected to design and build the facility. The manufacturing, warehouse and dock areas utilize 86,000 s.f. with 4,000 s.f. being used for office space.
The main entry to the building is emphasized by earth berming on either side of a pyramid shaped roof of colored metal to generate a focal point for visitors. Construction consists of full height, site cast, load hearing, lightweight, tilt-up concrete wall panels with a "Texcoat" coating and reveals. The concrete wall panels for the office areas were made aesthetically pleasing by a continuous hand of reflective glazing and topped with a standing seam metal roof
Three-hour tilt-up concrete fire separation walls divide the manufacturing and warehouse areas which are equipped with wet pipe sprinklers. A structural steel roof framing system was utilized for this area and covered with a single-ply roof membrane.
